La Closerie Saint Roc

Puisseguin, Bordeaux

Located in Puisseguin, on the limestone plateaus to the east of Saint-Émilion, La Closerie Saint Roc was acquired in 2013 by Pascal Amoreau, a representative of a family of winemakers established in the region for over four centuries. This acquisition has a particular significance as one of his ancestors, Alex Anglebin, had already farmed this land in the 19th century.

The estate today covers approximately sixteen hectares and is primarily based on a substrate of starry limestone covered with more or less deep clay soils. Merlot, cabernet franc, and cabernet sauvignon make up the majority of the grape varieties. The Amoreau family applies a holistic approach combining organic farming, biodynamics, agroforestry, and reflection on the vineyard ecosystem. Some plots are subject to separate vinifications, such as Les Sureaux, a 2.2-hectare plot of merlot located on limestone very close to the surface.

The estate is certified notably by Ecocert and Demeter. The aim is to restore the differences between the soils and plots of the property, seeking more freshness and balance than the power historically associated with certain Bordeaux wines.
