Domaine de la Grande Colline

Cornas, Rhône Valley

The Domaine de la Grande Colline was created in the early 2000s by Japanese winemaker Hirotake Ooka, after several years of training and work in the northern Rhône. The estate develops on the granite slopes of Cornas and Saint-Péray, before Hirotake Ooka decides to return to Japan. In January 2018, the vines are taken over by Jonathan Jacquart. His background is atypical: holding a BTS in hospitality and catering followed by a BTS in viticulture and oenology, he works as a sommelier in several starred restaurants while gaining experience in renowned wine estates, notably at Château des Tours, Léon Barral, and Domaine Dujac.

The estate represents about four hectares of vines, mainly on granite, with syrah. The slopes, steep and often difficult to mechanise, require significant manual labour. The vineyard is managed according to the principles of biodynamics and Jonathan today continues a very precise work on the different sites he has inherited. It is now one of the most sought-after estates in the Rhône Valley.
