Domaine Barmès-Buecher

Wettolsheim, Alsace

The Domaine Barmès-Buecher was established in 1985 from the marriage of Geneviève Buecher and François Barmès, bringing together two families who have owned vineyards in Wettolsheim since the 17th century. The estate now covers 18 hectares, at the foot of the Vosges hills, in close proximity to Colmar. François and Geneviève committed the entire vineyard to biodynamics in 1998 and obtained certification from the 2001 vintage, making the estate one of the pioneers of this approach in Alsace.

Since 2011, Maxime Barmès has been in charge of the vineyards and winemaking, accompanied by Geneviève and Sophie Barmès. Nine grape varieties are cultivated on a mosaic of terroirs, including riesling, gewurztraminer, pinot gris, muscat, pinot blanc, and pinot noir. The estate's heritage includes several grand crus, among which are Hengst, Steingrubler, and Pfersigberg. The work is largely done by hand, and animal traction has notably been reintroduced on certain plots of Hengst. The diversity of grape varieties and soils allows the estate to offer a particularly comprehensive interpretation of the terroirs of Wettolsheim and its surroundings.
